Inspiring HANDS, a local non-profit organization, recently granted 27 scholarship awards totaling $20,915.00 to individuals with special needs in the Houston area.  The independent selection committee met on Thursday, April 28, 2017, to select the award recipients from the pool of deserving applicants. The 2017 selection committee was made up of Michael Broussard, founding member of Building New Foundations; Michelle Droubi, office president for Allegiance Bank; and Bruce Hillegeist, president of the Greater Tomball Area Chamber of Commerce.  With the 2017 award recipients having been announced, Inspiring HANDS is proud to have awarded over 75 scholarships in the last three years.

Founded in late 2014, Inspiring HANDS, a 100% volunteer, non-profit organization, focuses on providing scholarship awards that help local individuals with financial and special needs to attend partner, non-profit camps and equestrian therapy centers in Texas.  Donations contribute to tuition and awards at a select set of non-profit camps and centers that offer therapeutic support, adaptive recreation, and a focus on cultivating skills and values needed for success. Current partner organizations include Camp Blessing Texas, Camp Summit, Camp CAMP, SIRE Therapeutic Equestrian Center, Panther Creek Inspiration Ranch, and Joy Ride.  Inspiring HANDS has also provided assistance to thousands through the immediate needs program. Immediate needs have included food drives, clothing drives, back-to-school drives, and more, which benefitted local flood victims, adult special needs homes, veterans, local students, and senior living center residents.

Applications for Camperships and Ridership Awards are accepted between November 1 and March 15 of each year.  Over 45 applications were received this year, and although 27 were granted, there are still many special needs individuals in need of support.  If you are interested in being a direct sponsor of those remaining, please contact us at 832-953-5354 before May 15th.

“None of the work that we do would be possible without the generous donations and sponsorships of individuals and businesses in our community,” says Inspiring HANDS President, Susan Lutz.  On October 27, 2017, at Sterling Country Club in Houston, Inspiring HANDS will host its third annual “Come Together Extravaganza.”  IH hosts this event once a year to help raise funds to support the awards and immediate needs programs.  Community members and business owners are invited to attend.  Take it to the limit one more time for the rock n’ roll event of the year, featuring a live concert by Eagles tribute band Already Gone, plated dinner, open bar, dancing, costume contest, silent and live auction, and more.  Put on your best ‘70s costume or formal wear, as this will be an event you don’t want to miss.  Tickets for this event can be purchased online through October 20th at www.inspiringhands.org/events/CT17.
