Speaker: Dr. Douglas Killian, CFISD Superintendent
Topic: State of the District
BIO:
The CFISD Board of Trustees approved Dr. Douglas Killian as the lone finalist for the incoming superintendent of schools on Nov. 13, 2023. Dr. Killian assumed his new role with CFISD on Jan. 1, 2024.
Dr. Killian brings 20 years of superintendent experience to Cypress-Fairbanks ISD. He served as superintendent of schools at Pflugerville ISD from 2017-2023. A Texas Superintendent of the Year finalist in 2022, Dr. Killian helped the district pass a $370 million bond package, a voter-approved tax rate election (VATRE) and an attendance credit election (ACE) on the same date. He also oversaw completion of a $280 million bond project, and presented a balanced budget with the highest staff raises in decades while lowering the tax rate.
Prior to Pflugerville ISD, Dr. Killian served as the superintendent of schools in Hutto ISD (2010-2017), Huffman ISD (2006-2010) and Poteet ISD (2004-2006). He worked as an assistant superintendent in Poteet ISD from 2001-2004, and was the interim superintendent of schools from 2003-2004 before taking over the full-time position. He began his educational career in United ISD as a first grade teacher.
Dr. Killian received his Doctor of Philosophy in educational administration from Texas A&M University, his Master of Science in educational administration from Texas A&M International University and his Bachelor of Arts in political science from Southwest Texas State University (now Texas State University).
He served and graduated from both the United States Marine Corps boot camp in San Diego, California, and the Air Force Officers Training Corps at Lackland Air Force Base in San Antonio before being honorably discharged.
Dr. Killian is married to Lorie Killian, a Registered Nurse, and the Killians have three children: Jackson, Joshua and Jacob.
