VIRTUAL MEETING ONLY
Speaker: Dr. Dalia Sherif, Executive Dean, Baccalaureate Programs & Partnerships, ~Lone Star College - University Center at The Woodlands
Topic: Community College and Career: Access, Inclusion, and Opportunity
Dr. Sherif will focus on how the community college bachelor's degrees differ from traditional university offerings. The bachelor degrees offered by community colleges offer an affordable, close-to-home, and industry-driven opportunity that can take students directly into the workforce. In alignment with the long-standing tradition of community colleges to raise up a new generation of work-ready adults, these programs are designed specifically with a profession, opportunity, access, and inclusion in mind to help thousands of work force professional break the metaphoric glass ceiling and escape the invisible degree barrier that prevents them from rising to senior positions. It's a subtle but damaging form of discrimination where you cannot attain the opportunities you see in front of you because of the cost of attending a four year university, despite your suitability and your best efforts. This is how community colleges help the community for generations to come. Instead of offering liberal arts programs in political science or English, these bachelor's degrees will be in specific fields like nursing, cyber security, and management.
