Cy-Fair Houston Chamber of Commerce Announces 2019 Businesses of the Year
 
CY-FAIR, TEXAS (Feb. 19, 2020) The Cy-Fair Houston Chamber of Commerce hosted its annual Business Awards Luncheon at the Berry Center on Tuesday, February 18th, to announce the recipient of the prestigious Chairman’s Award, name their Ambassador of the Year, and to announce the winners of Business of the Year.
 
The Chairman’s Award, established in the early days of the Cy-Fair Chamber, and the recipient is selected by the Chairman of the Board. Its purpose is to recognize an individual who is committed to the growth of business in Cy-Fair. It is awarded to someone who is passionate about the growth, development and betterment of the entire community. The recipient must possess a strong character and exhibit leadership qualities, giving back to their family, their church, their business, and their community. 2019 Chairman of the Board, Keith Vrana of Consolidated Mills, presented the 2019 Chairman’s Award to Devann Blake of White Water Express Car Wash for her contributions and service to the Cy-Fair community and the Chamber. Devann currently serves as Co-Chair to our Ambassadors Committee and plays a vital role in our annual Adam J. Skinner Golf Tournament every year.
The 2019 Ambassador of the Year was awarded to Community Leader, Nick Wilhite, now retired from Wilhite Environmental. “Nick always offers his services, whether it be volunteering at Chamber Luncheons, attending ribbon cuttings, or showing up and offering assistance wherever he is needed.” Leslie Martone, President of the Cy-Fair Houston Chamber of Commerce said. Other nominees for Ambassador of the Year were David Westfall of Global Locator Systems of Texas, Craig Harris with America 9 Construction, LLC, and Toni Autmon with Primerica.
The 2019 Businesses of the Year were:

  • SMALL BUSINESS – FEWER THAN 10 EMPLOYEES:
    • The winner: Edward Jones-Financial Advisor, Rick Skinner
    • Finalists: Edward Jones-Financial Advisor: Rick Skinner, PJ’s Coffee of New Orleans, Shaka Power Yoga,
      and Steam Commander.
  • MEDIUM BUSINESS – FEWER THAN 50 EMPLOYEES:
    • The winner: Strong Vision Center
    • Finalists: INsite Architecture, Inc., Marvino’s Italian Kitchen, and Strong Vision Center.  
  • LARGE BUSINESS – MORE THAN 50 EMPLOYEES:
    • Winner: Cypress-Fairbanks Independent School District
    • Finalists: Chamberlin Roofing & Waterproofing, Cypress-Fairbanks Independent School District, and VLK Architects.  
  • NON-PROFIT:
    • Winner: The Cy-Fair Educational Foundation
    • Finalists: The Cy-Fair Educational Foundation, Hope Disaster Recovery, and Shield-Bearer Counseling Centers.
When asked about this year’s participation, Paula Harvey, Vice President of the Chamber stated, “Thank you to our twelve judges who worked tirelessly to pick the finalists from the largest number of applications we have ever received.  The Small Business category ended with four qualifying finalists after a third-place tie. Congratulations to all the finalists! We are looking for another dynamic event in January 2021!”
